Up and Comers
- Emerging Industry
Leaders With Vision - Interview Series |
| |
It's
relatively easy to think retrospectively of those individuals who
have made a lasting impression on our industry. Their CV's, list of
accomplishments and acknowledgements pretty much speak for
themselves. This industry though is also actively shaped by today's
leaders, operating in dynamic environments, influencing their own
organizations and categories, as well as clients, peers,
associations and the greater community. This column will take a look
at these "Up & Comers", examining what makes them tick and the
skills, attributes and perhaps most importantly, the vision they
share with those around them, to influence change.

Up & Comers: An Interview With Ryan Black, CEO of Açaí Category-maker Sambazon [2008/03/24] [By Len Monheit] Ryan Black founded Sambazon in 2000 after discovering the amazing açai fruit during a surfing trip to Brazil. Realizing that the sustainable trade of this fruit was a powerful vehicle to spread a message of corporate social responsibility, Ryan began the task of building a sustainable business model in the third world with mainstream promise. A social entrepreneur, Ryan is guided by the philosophy of the “Triple Bottom Line” which demonstrates that corporate success can be achieved on an economic, social and environmental level. Working closely with the world’s foremost conservation organizations (World Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy) and other key non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Sambazon has pioneered the first of its kind Fair Trade, sustainable and certified organic supply chain of açai.
