UAS Laboratories, a leading probiotic company, was founded by Dr. S.K. Dash in 1979. The company manufactures and markets probiotics and antioxidant in the United States, Canada and other foreign countries. UAS offers finished products and raw materials, private labels and custom manufacturing.
 Dr. Dash (2006 Orissa State Man of the Year) became interested in probiotics while working as the director of the Food and Drug Administration for South Dakota from 1973 to 1979. He found that studies showed probiotics were 97 percent effective in treating E.coli infections in pigs, an efficacy rate equal to the antibiotics then being used. Building on this research, he started his own company and began to develop probiotics for human use. He also introduced quality control standards for probiotics to the industry and became chairman of the National Probiotic Products Committee because of his expertise in probiotics and concerns about honesty in labeling and quality control. Dr. Dash is the current Vice President of the International Probiotics Association which is concerned with probiotic safety and regulatory issues.
