Description:

In 1998, Chrysantis, Inc. began its search for a Marigold variety that would produce high amounts of zeaxanthin (zee-a-zan-thin), a substance that is beneficial to the eyes. Ball Horticultural Company has over 40 years of experience in breeding successful Xanthophyll (zan-tho-phil) Marigold varieties that contain lutein and now has successfully bred Marigolds that contain zeaxanthin. In partnership with Ball, Chrysantis grows these special Marigolds to harvest two key carotenoids that aid in the prevention of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) – zeaxanthin and lutein (lu-teen).

A typical Marigold flower carotenoid profile is 80 percent lutein and 5 percent zeaxanthin. Chrysantis has obtained a wide range of proprietary zeaxanthin-lutein Marigolds with profiles that range from 75 percent zeaxanthin and 5 percent lutein to 50 percent zeaxanthin and 50 percent lutein.

Once the Marigold crop is harvested, these carotenoids are extracted, purified and tested. Chrysantis formulates the “ingredients” into the final product that is sold to manufacturers who produce dietary supplements sold at drug and health food stores. These substances are 100 percent naturally derived from Chrysantis Marigolds and are extremely important in the prevention of AMD.

What gives Chrysantis a unique edge is that all of our flower breeding and production are completely natural. From the colorful Marigold flower blooming in the field to the final formulation of the carotenoids, only natural oils and Vitamin E are added. This also marks the first time ever that natural, high-purity zeaxanthin has been in the marketplace – a major breakthrough in the nutraceutical industry.

Chrysantis offers thousands of Americans help to maintain their vision. When it comes to zeaxanthin and lutein supplements, it’s important to look for products that are derived from Marigold flowers.
