The central role of immunoglobulin in providing immunological protection is very well established. Immunoglobulin, or antibodies, is also known to be the critical, bioactive component of milk or colostrum that confers immunity to the neonate in the process called passive immunity. The function of immunoglobulin in the digestive tract in its passive immunity role is to bind to a foreign molecule, such as at the surface of a bacteria or a toxin so that the molecule can be removed from the digestive tract without stimulation of the immune system. This process of removing antigens is called immune exclusion.
A recent study will make the industry re-consider perceptions on proteins and cholesterol. A double-blind, placebo-controlled study with the objective of examining the effectiveness of oral supplementation of ImmunoLin® on lipid indices in hypercholesterolemic humans (N = 52) was reported at Experimental Biology in 2004. Consumption of 5 grams per day of ImmunoLin® for just 3 or 6 weeks reduced both total and LDL cholesterol compared to baseline measures. The change in both total and LDL cholesterol was also greater than the change observed in volunteers receiving the placebo after 6 weeks. Thus, ImmunoLin® supplementation also appears to positively modulate major lipid indices associated with cardiovascular disease.
Studies have shown that when IGF-I and TNF-α are added together, TNF-α greatly impairs the ability of IGF-I to promote protein synthesis. With the use of NutraGammaxTM, TNF-α is inhibited and IGF-1 is able to promote protein synthesis. The use of ImmunoLin® and NutraGammaxTM to modulate the immune response is patent-pending. NutraGammaxTM is a protein uniquely different from whey. It has a much higher molecular weight and has slow-release characteristics making a combination of whey and NutraGammaxTM very complimentary.
