Beaverton Foods Takes its Mustards to Organic Category
2009-06-11 - Beaverton Foods




Beaverton Foods, Inc. has entered the organic category with its popular Inglehoffer Stone Ground Mustard and Honey Mustard flavors.

The Inglehoffer Organic Honey Mustard, 10.25 oz., and the Inglehoffer Organic Stone Ground Mustard, 10 oz., started hitting shelves in retail stores across the US early this year.  The suggested retail price for the USDA certified organic mustards is $4.99.  The new mustards join more than 20 mustards, horseradishes, tartar and cocktail sauces produced by Beaverton Foods in the Inglehoffer lineup.

Domonic Biggi, Vice President of Beaverton Foods, said it was time for an organic product from the 80-year-old third generation family owned and operated company.

 “We are offering award-winning organic condiments just in time for the summer  grilling season,” Biggi said.  “We understand that although not every organic  consumer purchases 100 percent organic, it is important for us to cross merchandise  into this category with our award-winning brands.”

Consumer demand continues to grow in the organic category.  According to the Organic Trade Association, the organic industry has continued to grow at an annual rate of about 22 percent.  Mintel, a Chicago, IL marketing firm, predicts organic sales of $7.2 billion in 2008, an increase of more than 140 percent from the $3 billion recorded in 2003.

A recent issue of Prevention also noted that 75 published studies have found that organic food is more nutritious than non-organic food.
