Cognis Unveils New Product Concepts Featuring Beauty-From-Within Functional Ingredients for Dietary Supplements, Foods and Beverages
2009-11-16 - Cognis Nutrition and Health

Cognis Nutrition & Health is unveiling innovative new product concepts featuring a broad line of functional ingredients for skin health and body shaping at the 2009 SupplySide West trade show and conference.  Attendees can quench their thirst with “NEWtritional” beverages at the Cognis Café (booth 21014) which showcases its applications expertise in creating a range of formulations for Beauty-From- Within dietary supplements, foods and beverages.

Today the global nutricosmetics market is estimated to exceed $2 billion, according to Kline research, with conservative forecasts targeting $2.5 billion by 2012.  “We are seeing a global mega-trend that offers our customers tremendous opportunities to tap into a new market,” said Sharrann Simmons, Senior Marketing Manager, Cognis Nutrition & Health. “Cognis offers the widest portfolio of “edible beauty” ingredients plus innovative new concepts to drastically reduce a company’s development time and help maximize their profitability.”

She explained that consumers want skincare products that deliver beauty benefits through nutrition fueling one of the hottest trends in the market.  “The drivers for this growth come from both the baby boomers as well as the Gen X-Y segment—those adults in their twenties and thirties.  While the older population is concerned more about repairing their skin to preserve their appearance, younger consumers are focusing on preventing skin damage.”

Cognis’ ingredients for Beauty-from-Within include Tonalin® CLA for body shaping, and four products for skin health: Betatene® natural mixed carotenoids; Xangold® natural lutein esters; Covitol® natural vitamin E, and Omevital™ omega-3 fatty acids.

Cognis Cafe
Attendees are invited to sample five beauty beverages at the Cognis Café at booth 21014:
• “Lean Mean Mocha Blast” and “Key Lime Trimmer”, two delicious beverages featuring Tonalin® CLA to help reduce body fat by decreasing the amount of fat stored and increasing the rate of fat metabolism.  Research has shown that CLA is especially effective in reducing body fat around the waist and thighs.

• “Sangria Sensation,” a sangria with Omevital® omega-3 fatty acids added to the fruity wine to help enhance overall wellness and promote skin health.

• “Crystal Clear Beauty Quencher,” enhanced beauty water with Xangold® natural lutein esters, Covitol® natural vitamin E, and Plantalin™ lemon balm.  This crystal clear beverage highlights Cognis’ application expertise in formulating fat-based ingredients into water-based systems.  Studies show that lutein can help restore UV-induced depletion of antioxidant resources.  Vitamin E, another antioxidant booster, regenerates vitamin C and can increase skin protection when combined with carotenoids.

• “Cool as a Cucumber,” a special cucumber water with Covitol® natural vitamin E combined with two calming botanicals, Plantalin™ lemon balm and passionflower, which offers stress reduction and overall skin vitality.  In a recent survey, 60 percent of women believe stress impacts facial skin appearance.

Also available at the booth are samples of “Apollo”, a daily supplement enriched with Covitol® natural vitamin E, Xangold® natural lutein esters, Betatene® beta-carotene and essential oils to enhance the skin’s natural defenses against harmful UV radiation.  Drink sticks of “Aqua” are being offered to demonstrate how this daily supplement of Covitol® natural vitamin E, Xangold® natural lutein esters and Omevital™ omega-3 fatty acids can revitalize undernourished skin. Cognis managers will be at the booth throughout the SupplySide West show to explain how its beauty and health ingredients can add value to a new or existing food, beverage or dietary supplement.
