NPA Exec to Discuss Steroids and Supplements on CBS's "The Early Show" Program
2009-10-21 - Natural Products Association

Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., interim executive director and CEO of the Natural Products Association will discuss issues surrounding steroids being illegally marketed as body building dietary supplements during CBS’s The Early Show health coverage. The program will air Wednesday, October 21 at 7:15 a.m. ET and again on Thursday on the CBS television network.

Fabricant had testified as part of a panel of industry and agency experts September 29 in front of the Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee during its hearing, "Body Building Products and Hidden Steroids: Enforcement Barriers." NPA’s testimony is available at www.naturalproductsassoc.org/fabricant_testimony_092909.

Fabricant, who is also NPA’s vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs, stated during his testimony that “tougher enforcement and prosecution to the full extent of the law are the best ways to stop the criminals” responsible for selling steroids masquerading as dietary supplements.

The topic has received wide media coverage, and the Natural Products Association has been cited in several national and international media outlets including ABC News’ Good Morning America and USAToday. Fabricant has also spoken out on this issue on MSNBC’s Dr. Nancy and in various print media outlets.
