Sprunk-Jansen's Glucose Level Shown in Study to Manage Blood Glucose Levels
2009-05-19 - Sprunk-Jansen

A new published study examining the effects of the proprietary Greek-Arab formula known as GLUCOSE LEVEL from Sprunk-Jansen, LLC, has demonstrated remarkable efficacy, safety and tolerance in human subjects. GLUCOSE LEVEL is a mixture of dried extract of leaves of Juglans regia L, Olea europea L, Urtica dioica L and Atriplex halimus L. The current study evaluated these botanicals using in vivo and in vitro test systems.

The observational study involving 16 subjects with recent type II diabetes onset demonstrated significant effects of GLUCOSE LEVEL in reducing blood sugar levels within a period of four weeks. Subjects with >300 mg/dL glucose levels achieved significant results after four weeks, while subjects with less than 300 mg/dL blood glucose levels demonstrated clinically significant results already within two to three weeks. Baseline glucose levels within the first week were significantly reduced from 290±40 to 210±20 mg/dL. A significant reduction in glycosylated hemoglobin A1C (8.2±1.03 to 6.9±0.94) was found in a number of subjects.

In the duration of the four-week study, the 16 middle-aged subjects did not take any prescription pharmaceuticals or other supplements but only consumed GLUCOSE LEVEL three times daily along with maintaining their normal diet and lifestyle habits.  Further, no minor or major adverse effects were noted and the supplement was well tolerated by all subjects.

In the study, both animal and human data confirmed significant hypoglycemic properties of GLUCOSE LEVEL extracts and demonstrated distinctive effects on reducing intestinal glucose absorption, increasing cellular glucose uptake and diminishing blood sugar levels.

The researchers noted that GLUCOSE LEVEL’s four-herb formula was developed according to the extensive herbal knowledge of the Greek-Arab medical system.  Two extensive surveys recently carried out among practitioners of Arabic medicine in the Middle East have found that 26 plant species are commonly used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Of those, the most prominent for this condition are Juglans regia, Atriplex halimus, Olea europea and Urtica dioica.

Scientific evidence obtained so far strongly indicates hypoglycemic and antioxidant properties of each of the four herbs contained in GLUCOSE LEVEL. The main active ingredient in Olea europea, oleuropeoside, disclosed a distinct hypoglycemic effect at a dose of 16 mg/kg, together with hypotensive and hypolipidemic properties.  In addition, both Olea europea and Juglans regia acted to inhibit α-glucosidase thus reducing the absorption of carbohydrates in the gut.  Tannins and polyphenolics in Juglans regia were found to be potent antioxidants and to reveal strong scavenging activity against both superoxide and hydroxyl radicals. An animal model for diabetogenesis and obesity proved that Atriplex halimus is an extremely effective anti-diabetic herb and shows an insulin-potentiating effect. There is evidence that Urtica dioica extracts possess hypoglycemic properties and improve glucose tolerance.

The authors concluded, “Our results obtained in the present study demonstrate safety, tolerability and efficacy of such herbal combinations of the four plants that seem to act differently but synergistically to regulate glucose-homeostasis.”
