Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Confirms Benefits of Food Containing Saw Palmetto on Patients with Prostatic Enlargement

At this year’s Japanese Society for Complementary and Alternative Medicine Meeting, held on 8/9 November in Yokohama, Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. announced that it had successfully confirmed the effectiveness of food containing saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) on Japanese sufferers of prostatic enlargement. The company’s research involved a group of 12 patients suffering from prostatic enlargement, with half the group being given food containing saw palmetto, and the other half being given a placebo. The results showed that the group given the saw palmetto demonstrated an improvement in symptoms of dysuria.
Although saw palmetto has been used in Japanese health foods for many years, this is the first study to prove its effectiveness in benefitting sufferers of prostatic enlargement.
