Noblesville, IN – March 19, 2007 - Published results on the latest human study on WOKVEL Extract, the proprietary, all natural Boswellia serrata extract clinically researched for optimal joint health, found a sustained decrease in WOMAC score for WOKVEL Extract and valdecoxib, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) over a seven month period.(1)
The subjects in the 6-month, randomized, prospective, comparative study were assessed using the WOMAC (Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index) scale each month, and then assessed at 7 months after baseline, after a one month washout.
An overall decrease in WOMAC values, which marked an increase in joint health and function, were observed each month, through six months after baseline for both WOKVEL Extract and valdecoxib. After the one month washout, WOMAC scores of WOKVEL Extract group remained low, while scores for valdecoxib increased back to near-baseline values. The results indicate WOKVEL Extract offers a sustained joint health effect, which may be related to prior reports on the functional cellular processes important for inflammatory reactions by boswellic acids.(2)
According to the American College of Rheumatology, 70% of those over age 70 exhibit x-ray evidence of osteoarthritis, which affects more than 20 million Americans.(3)
The study, published in the February 2007 issue of the Indian Journal of Pharmacology, is the third published human study performed on WOKVEL Extract. A previous study published in the journal Phytomedicine in 2003 showed WOKVEL Extract efficacious for inflammatory issues associated with the knee.(4) A human pharmacokinetic study on WOKVEL Extract, published in Phytomedicine in 2004, detected 11-keto-beta-boswellic acid (KBA) to be the primary boswellic acid detected into the bloodstream. The dosage of WOKVEL Extract, determined in this study, is 333 mg three times daily.(5)
