NPI Bites Review: Amazing Meal by Amazing Grass
2009-10-20 - By Andrew Stewart

Amazing Grass has a great deal of drink mixes to help get you those extra servings of fruits and vegetables, and today we’ll be focusing on their line of Amazing Meal products.

The Amazing Meal products come in three different flavours: Original Blend, Chocolate Infusion and Pomegranate Mango Infusion. Each of these flavours varies slightly in their ingredient content, but that is mostly in regards to the specific flavouring.

Designed to be mixed with different types of liquids, I tested them out mixed with water to ensure the taste wasn’t altered by anything else, such as milk, smoothies or juice.

The powder mixes a bit slowly into water I found, if there are large clumps of powder you’ll need to break it up with a spoon or straw, otherwise you’ll be waiting quite a while to separate on its own. The only real problem with this is if you mix it into a water bottle with a small bottle mouth as I did, which resulted in my shaking the bottle madly for quite a few minutes in order to break up the powder and have it mix properly. Luckily this is a problem easily avoided by using a glass to drink the mixed product from. While the powder was a bit gritty in water, it’s definitely something that would be less of an issue in a smoothie.

In regards to taste, I found the Original Blend to be the least appealing. The Chocolate Infusion was something I thought would blend quite well into chocolate milk or a chocolate flavoured smoothie, and the Pomegranate Mango Infusion would work well with a variety of fruit juices or smoothies. My award for best tasting amongst these three easily goes to the Pomegranate Mango Infusion.

Another strong point with these products is that they are USDA certified organic, and are ideal for a incorporating into variety of diets, including; vegan, raw, gluten free, soy free and dairy free.

Overall, I’m going to give these products a collective 4 out of 5. Definitely a good boost, but the ideal choice of flavour will be specific to each individual.
