EDINA, MN – Minnesota Applied Research Center (MARC) announced the addition of four new employees including a Clinical Staff Dietitian, a Clinical Research Coordinator, and two Research Assistants in response to the rapid growth of the clinical research center.

Sally Hesse, RD, LD joins MARC as a Clinical Staff Dietitian.  Ms. Hesse will be responsible for counseling subjects and assessing their diet and exercise patterns.  Prior to joining MARC, Ms. Hesse worked for 14 years as a Clinical Dietitian with Sodexho, the food service provider for Unity Hospitals in Fridley, MN, where she oversaw the clinical management of patients including diet instructions, modifications and nutritional support analyses.  Ms. Hesse also worked as a dietitian with the Minneapolis Public Health Department, United Hospitals of St. Paul, Hines Veterans Administration Hospital in Hines, Illinois and Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois.  Ms. Hesse graduated Cum Laude from Bradley University with a B.S. in Food & Nutrition and was recently ADA certified in the area of Adult Weight Management.  Ms. Hesse is an active member of the American and Minnesota Dietetic Associations.   “Sally brings a wealth of dietary experience in the clinical setting and will greatly enhance MARC’s abilities to provide in-depth patient management especially in the areas of weight loss and the use of nutritional supplements,” says Joy Frestedt, PhD, Executive Director of Research, Minnesota Applied Research Center.

Debora Lascewski, LPN, joins MARC as Clinical Research Coordinator where she will be responsible for recruiting, screening and enrolling subjects, monitoring study procedures, and overseeing regulatory and SOP compliance.  Prior to joining MARC, Ms. Lascewski worked in the Asthma and Allergy Department and the Department of Neurology at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN.  She also worked at the Allina Medical Clinics in Woodbury, MN and various other  clinics in the Twin Cities area since 1987, when she received her license from the Minnesota State Board of Nursing and St. Paul Technical College.  “Debora’s extensive practical nursing experience will round out our clinical management capability as we continue to see increasing numbers of patients.  We’re very excited to be able to add her expertise to our program,” says Dr. Frestedt.

Other new employees include two Research Assistants, Kellie LeMay and Nichole Puariea.  Ms. LeMay is certified as a Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aid, and Phlebotomist and she has worked as a phlebotomist for HealthEast Clinic of Woodbury, Minnesota and United Hospital in St. Paul.  She will assist with collecting, processing and coordinating samples and information for MARC clinical trials.  Ms. Puariea has worked as an office manager, general manager and a customer service representative. She will assist with overall clinic operations and organization.  “Kellie and Nikki will strengthen MARC’s capabilities and the service we are able to provide to our customers,” says Dr. Frestedt.  “It’s an exciting time for MARC and we are extremely fortunate to have the extensive experience and practical skills that all of these employees bring to the table.  We look forward to continued growth and success at MARC.”
