- DSEA Call to Action
Most of us are aware of the three-day news broadcast discrediting dietary supplements that appeared on ABC World News Tonight this week. The industry knew these stories were in production and before they were finalized sent out an email blast recommending that supplement users contact ABC News with their positive experiences. None was contacted and we found it impossible to convince them to present a balanced view. DSEA is asking everyone to write, e-mail or blog ABC News with your displeasure of their biased reporting to America.

Company to Supply Two Million Multivitamin Tablets Each Month for Distribution in Tibet
WESTBURY, NY, May 10, 2006 - Tishcon Corporation today announced that it has doubled its commitment to supply multivitamin tablets to the Vitamin Angel Alliance and will now manufacture and provide two million tablets each month for distribution to at-risk children in Tibet. Vitamin Angel Alliance, a non-profit organization designed to fight malnutrition and childhood blindness around the world organizes monthly donations in Tibet in coordination with the Terma Foundation, a non-profit humanitarian organization focusing on Tibetan health crises.

"We are very impressed with the great work Vitamin Angels is doing in Tibet, and felt it was extremely important for us to increase our commitment to helping the affected children in this region," said Arun Chopra, vice president, Tishcon Corporation. "We are proud of our association with Vitamin Angels, and are pleased to be not only continuing, but growing our relationship." A study conducted by the Terma Foundation found that up to 70 percent of Tibetian children are vulnerable to rickets. Rickets is caused by vitamin D and calcium deficiencies that weaken the immune system, causing children to be vulnerable to severe childhood diseases including pneumonia and tuberculosis.
"We are thrilled that Tishcon has increased its monthly donation. This brings us closer to our goal of distributing five million multivitamins to children in Tibet every month," said Howard Schiffer, president, Vitamin Angel Alliance. "Since launching this campaign in 2003, a dramatic improvement has been seen in the children being served in Tibet. Tishcon has been with us from the start and is consistently one of the first companies to reach out and offer assistance." Last year alone, Vitamin Angel Alliance shipped more than 100 million supplements to over 40 countries throughout the world, including to victims of the tsunami in South Asia and hurricane Katrina in the United States. Tishcon Corp. (www.tishcon.com), founded in 1976, is a leading manufacturer and marketer of vitamins, related dietary and herbal supplements and private label non-prescription (OTC) pharmaceuticals. A full service manufacturer, Tishcon Corp. also specializes in design bioavailability and clinical trials. Tishcon Corp. is registered with the U.S. FDA, NY State Board of Pharmacy, and is GMP Certified by the NNFA.
Vitamin Angel Alliance (www.vitaminangel.org) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization providing basic nutrition to people in need since 1994. Vitamin Angel Alliance responds to the most pressing health concerns identified by the communities requesting its assistance. Nutritional products are contributed to the Alliance by an ever-enlarging association of Vitamin Angels -- a consortium of nutritional supplement manufacturers, distributors and retailers. These goods are then donated to charitable health care facilities and programs located in countries across the globe, including the United States.
