Westlake Village, Calif. - Intramedicine, Inc. (www.intramedicine.com)a leading health information publishing and new technology services company, announced today the launch of their Traditional Chinese Medicine professional database containing hundreds of single herb monographs, formulas and health condition information as it relates to TCM.
The Intramedicine TCM database is unique in that it is the only one of it's kind to have been prepared for use by Western healthcare professionals. The primary application for the data is to provide the reader with both an understanding of the various treatments used for specific conditions and an awareness of how and when specific herbs might be used. The database contains over 150 single herb monographs that provide information on the pharmacology, toxicity, and precautions associated with use. In addition there is health condition information that provides how a Chinese Medical Specialist or acupuncturist diagnoses particular conditions as well as providing the related treatments such as acupuncture, moxibustion, electro-acupuncture, massage, acupressure and others. All of the information in the database is science-based, referenced and fully relational. The database was acquired in it's original form in August of 2000, and is a collaborative effort of Intramedicine, Dr. Ann Wang, who is an overseas consultant for the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China, and her team of professionals in Beijing, China. The primary goal of TCM is to promote healing by maintaining wellness, balance and harmony in the entire body, with the main focus on treating the person, not the disease. TCM is one of the oldest practiced holistic medical therapies, dating back over 4,000 years, and is currently used by one quarter of the world's population. Interest in TCM is rapidly growing in the West, as patients and consumers are increasingly looking for effective alternative and complementary medical therapies. This trend is pushing medical professionals to learn more about TCM and how it interacts with conventional drugs and treatment protocols. "We are excited to be able to offer the TCM database in addition to our current suite of products," stated Jeffrey Eisenberg, CEO of Intramedicine, Inc. "The database complements our comprehensive product offering and is in line with maintaining our current business model as the global source for integrative medical information."
