The New Zealand Herald reports that supplement sales in New Zealand have dropped sharply (as much as 20 percent) following the recent recall of products manufactured by Australia-based Pan Pharmaceuticals.

Store shelves were significantly depleted by the recall and consumer confidence was shaken despite the fact that no supplements were proven unsafe and the product which triggered the events was in fact an OTC product for travel sickness.

According to the article, the Food Safety Authority had initiated a hotline to deal with questions concerning the recall, and this center has tracked more than 8000 calls.
