The women receiving DHA supplementation showed much higher levels of measured DHA in their blood samples and in their breast milk fat at 30 days post-partum (0.33% of fat as compared to only 0.19% in controls).

Study published in the November issue of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association invoved 67 men and women with elevated cholesterol (> 200 mg/dl total cholesterol) who were randomly assigned to consume either the CocoaVia(R) snack bar twice daily, or a placebo product (matched in its design but formulated without plant sterols) for 6 weeks. At the end of 6 weeks, total cholesterol levels had decreased, on average, by 4.7 percent, and LDL levels, on average, had decreased by 6 percent in the group who regularly consumed the CocoaVia(R) snack bar formulated with plant sterols.

Los Angeles, CA, August 18, 2006 – A study published this month in Microbes and Infection demonstrated that the probiotic strains Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1™ and Lactobacillus reuteri RC-14™ were efficacious in treating bacterial vaginosis (BV) and increasing the population of beneficial lactobacillus organisms within the vagina. Jarrow Formula’s Fem-Dophilus is a branded vaginal probiotic product consisting of the exact strains, Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1™ and Lactobacillus reuteri RC-14™, used in the study. The study enrolled 125 premenopausal women diagnosed with BV. The subjects were treated with oral metronidazole (500 mg) twice daily from days 1 to 7, and randomized to receive L. rhamnosus GR-1™ and L. reuteri RC-14™ or a placebo from days 1 to 30. At the end of the study, 88% of the women in the group treated with an antibiotic plus GR-1 and RC-14 were cured while only 44% of the women treated with antibiotics and no probiotics recovered from the BV. A total of 106 subjects returned for a 30-day follow-up of which 88% were cured in the antibiotic/probiotic group compared to 40% in the antibiotic/placebo group. Of the remaining subjects, 30% in the placebo group and none in the probiotic group had BV.
