Study: Effect of Soy Diet on Mice with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Home
According to a Reuters article citing a mouse study published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder have determined that when male mice carrying a genetic mutation for heart disease (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) were fed a soy diet, they were severely affected and showed enlarged heart muscles and eventual heart failure. The researchers noted that males fed a casein diet no longer deteriorate to heart failure with other indicators of heart disease also reduced. Female mice were unaffected by the soy diet.
