PISCATAWAY, NJ, May 31, 2005 -- Sabinsa Corporation's ForsLean® brand Coleus forskohlii extract is not linked to contaminated Coleus forskohlii products discovered in Italy. According to a recent notice issued by the Italian Regulatory Authority and the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency in the United Kingdom, a handful of adverse drug reaction reports have been filed in association with the use of Coleus forskohlii containing products in Italy. It is not known whether the material itself was contaminated or if the contamination occurred during the manufacturing process. The following companies were listed as suppliers of potentially contaminated material: IndoWorld Trading Coorporation, Alchem International LTD, Galeno SRL and EPO SRL.
"We want to assure our customers that ForsLean is safe for continued use and is in no way associated with contaminated products in Italy," stated Dr. Muhammed Majeed, CEO, Sabinsa Corporation. "ForsLean is backed by more than a decade of clinical research which has confirmed its safety and efficacy, and we maintain our commitment to providing the highest quality, scientifically supported ingredients."
ForsLean is the only Coleus forskohlii extract that is patented for use as a weight management ingredient and that has been verified for potency and tested for safety and toxicity. All clinical and safety data currently available on Coleus forskohlii extract administered orally has been established using Sabinsa's ForsLean brand exclusively. Additionally, Sabinsa thoroughly tests each batch of ForsLean to ensure that it is free of any contaminants.
ForsLean is an extract derived from Coleus forskohlii roots, and the only known plant source of forskolin, a natural compound that has been shown to increase lean body mass and help optimize body composition through cAMP activation. Sabinsa holds U.S. Patent #5,804,596 and European Patent #98 907 537 9 for the use of forskolin as a weight management ingredient and manufactures and supplies various extract strengths for use in a variety of supplements and products. The use of Coleus forskohlii in such applications without it being the ForsLean brand is a violation of these patents. Other international patents are pending.
