Sabinsa has invited Shishir Shishodia, Ph.D., professor at Texas Southern University and researcher at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, to discuss new research surrounding the role of turmeric-derived curcuminoids in the treatment of certain types of cancers. Curcuminoids are high-powered antioxidants that have been shown to block the chain of events leading to tumor development, progression and expansion.  This session will review anti-cancer mechanisms, safety and toxicity and the numerous applications of curcuminoids in the treatment of cancer.

Dr. Shishodia earned his Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, India, and conducted his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.  His research interests include cytokine signaling, the role of transcription factors in tumorigenesis, and regulation of transcription by natural products.  Dr.
Shishodia has identified several natural compounds that exhibit anti-cancer properties.  He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers and edited a book on the role of Resveratrol in health and disease. Dr. Shishodia is also a recipient of the BHU Gold Medal and the Theodore N. Law Award for outstanding scientific achievements.

Curcumin and its derivatives demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin are collectively known as curcuminoids, and are recognized as one of the most promising food derived compounds in fighting cancer.
