Portland, ME (July, 2006) - Inspired by service dogs everywhere, Planet Dog is proud to announce the launch of the new Orbee-Tuff(R) Glow for Good Ball. All of the proceeds from this unique glow-in-the dark dog toy go directly to the Planet Dog Foundation (PDF), Planet Dog's non-profit organization that is raising the bar in canine-related philanthropy. The mission of PDF is to promote and celebrate programs in which dogs serve and support their best friends.
Each Glow for Good Ball is printed with the PDF logo and motto, Sit. Speak. Act.™, in hopes that people who support the mission of the Foundation will purchase it and take it out into the community. "This toy was designed to help increase awareness about the significant contributions dogs make to our society," says Kristen Smith, PDF’s Executive Director. "We want to encourage others to ‘act’ on behalf of these wonderful partners who enhance and save human lives. Playing fetch at the dog park, romping at the beach, or just tossing the ball around in the neighborhood field provide fantastic opportunities to spread the woof," adds Smith.
Made in the USA from Planet Dog's award-winning Orbee-Tuff® material, the Glow for Good Ball features a smooth round shape and 5 out of 5 chompers, the highest durability rating on Planet Dog's chew-o-meter scale. It is also bouncy, buoyant, mint-scented and 100% guaranteed.
The Glow for Good Ball comes in one size (3") and is perfect for dogs over 20 pounds such as retrievers and border collies. The suggested retail price is $9.95 and it can be purchased by retailers and consumers online at www.planetdogretailer.com and www.planetdog.com or by calling Planet Dog directly at 800-381-1516 (toll-free). They can also be found at pet stores and other retailers nationwide.
The Planet Dog Foundation recently awarded over $10,000 in grants to non-profit organizations that enable dogs to give back to people in need. Puppies Behind Bars, Western Montana Rescue Dogs, The Chenny Troupe and National Education for Assistance Dog Service/Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans (NEADS) have already put these grant awards to good use.
In addition to the grant program, the Planet Dog Foundation offers creative alternatives to maximize Planet Dog's commitment to support service dogs and the people they assist. The Adoption Option Program and the Product Donation Program are just a few ways that the Planet Dog Foundation is helping to support innovative non-profit organizations. For more information about the Planet Dog Foundation, which is funded in part by the sale of Planet Dog products, please visit www.planetdogfoundation.org.
In partnership with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Counseling Center, Planet Dog's Pink and Blue Ribbon Toys are helping to raise money for breast and prostate cancer outreach and awareness programs. By the end of 2006, the Planet Dog Foundation will have donated over $70,000 under the auspices of the Ribbon Toy programs.
Whether providing financial resources, helping to raise awareness about programs or building long-term partnerships, the Planet Dog Foundation is proud to be a part of proven initiatives that bring people and dogs together for mutual support.
"As a small company doing big things, we are looking to support like-minded organizations that will most benefit from our support," says Alex Fisher, Planet Dog's co-founder and Chief Creative Officer. "From the beginning, we knew we wanted to build a socially responsible company that not only enhanced the lives of dogs and their people, but one that also improved the world around us by giving back," adds Fisher.
