(Kearny, NJ), April 13, 2006 – In response to Vitamin Angel Alliance’s program to prevent vitamin deficiency diseases in Tibet’s at-risk children, Pharmachem Laboratories, Inc. has announced that it will double its previous donation to 2 million multiple vitamins every month in an ongoing relief effort that began in 2003.
Vitamin Angel Alliance, a non-profit charity organization dedicated to providing basic nutrition around the world, organizes monthly donations with ingredients from Pharmachem Laboratories, tableting and bottling from Tishcon Corporation, and in-country assistance from the Terma Foundation, a non-profit humanitarian organization focusing on Tibetan health crises.
“Through our donation aiding the malnourished children of Tibet, we feel we are really making a difference in an area of the world that so urgently needs nutritional assistance,” said Bruce McAdams, Senior Vice President, Pharmachem Laboratories, Inc. “We are proud to be part of the admirable work that Vitamin Angel Alliance is doing.”
A study conducted by the Terma Foundation found that up to 80 percent of Tibetan children are vulnerable to rickets, which causes deformities of the skeletal system and other vitamin deficiency diseases that put children at risk.
“We are thrilled with Pharmachem’s increase in their donation. This brings us closer to our goal of distributing 5 million multivitamins to children in Tibet every month,” said Howard Schiffer, Vitamin Angel Alliance President. “Since starting this campaign in 2003, a dramatic improvement has been seen in the children being served in Tibet. Pharmachem Laboratories has been with us from the start and is consistently one of the first companies to reach out and help during disasters such as the tsunami and Hurricane Katrina. This company continues to provide assistance before they are even asked.”
Last year alone, Vitamin Angel Alliance shipped over 100 million supplements to over 40 countries throughout the world, including South Asia’s tsunami and the U.S. Hurricane Katrina victims.
Pharmachem Laboratories, Kearny, NJ, develops, supplies and manufactures a variety of high-quality, efficacious food ingredients under the strictest quality control. For more information, call 1-800-526-0609 or visit www.pharmachemlabs.com
Vitamin Angel Alliance (www.vitaminangel.org) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization providing basic nutrition to people in need since 1994. Vitamin Angel Alliance responds to the most pressing health concerns identified by the communities requesting its assistance. Nutritional products are contributed to the Alliance by an ever-enlarging association of Vitamin Angels -- a consortium of nutritional supplement manufacturers, distributors and retailers. These goods are then donated to charitable health care facilities and programs located in countries across the globe, including the United States. Last year Vitamin Angels donated 23.4 million supplements to people in need in 40 countries around the world. To learn more, visit www.vitaminangel.org.
