Ann Arbor, MI and Taichung, Taiwan - NSF International today announced that it will offer expanded laboratory testing services in Taichung, Taiwan. This international program is a result of a new exclusive agreement with the Plastics Industry Development Center (PIDC), a nonprofit Taiwan-based technical service institute dedicated to education, independent research and testing in support of plastic manufacturers.
Under the terms of this exclusive agreement, NSF will offer testing services for drinking water treatment units (DWTUs) in Taiwan, including those needed to obtain NSF Certification. The laboratory is located in Taichung where many DWTU manufacturing facilities are located.
"Together NSF and PIDC will serve the needs of the growing Taiwan market, offering DWTU manufacturers the convenience of local testing and project management," said Tom Bruursema, general manager of NSF's Drinking Water Treatment Unit Certification Program. "PIDC has extensive capabilities in many related markets and services, with an impressive list of existing clients and government approvals making them an excellent fit with NSF," he added.
These new NSF services come at an important time for the Taiwan market where new local drinking water standards are currently being adopted. As part of a previous agreement between the government of Taiwan and NSF, NSF/ANSI Standard 42: Drinking Water Treatment Units - Aesthetic Effects will soon be adopted as CNS/NSF-42, the Chinese National Standard equivalent. The remaining DWTU standards and NSF/ANSI Standard 61: Drinking Water System Components - Health Effects will soon become Chinese National Standards.
"In order to deliver the highest quality service in the most timely manner, NSF has established strategic relationships with leading organizations such as the Plastics Industry Development Center," said NSF President and CEO Kevan P. Lawlor. "The Plastics Industry Development Center and NSF share a similar vision and commitment to innovation, quality and integrity. PIDC also has demonstrated its leadership through its state-of-the-art facilities and expert staff, both of which NSF values highly," he added.
"Our cooperation will strengthen the industry's global competitiveness, substantially shorten the time necessary for product testing, assist Taiwanese companies in expanding global market and drive related industries' vigorous development," said PIDC President Michael Lin. "This program is just a beginning of our intensive cooperation and will lead to sustained growth for each of our organizations. Both PIDC and NSF start to share the same value and strong growth from now."
For more information on the new agreement, please contact Tom Bruursema, general manager, NSF's Drinking Water Treatment Unit Certification Program at 800-NSF-MARK ext. 5575, 734-769-5575 or bruursema@nsf.org, or Kenneth Chen at PIDC, 886-4-23595900 ext. 637 or Kenneth@pidc.org.tw.
