NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., November 30, 2004 — The National Nutritional Foods Association (NNFA), the nation’s oldest and largest trade organization for natural products industry, will be holding its 8th annual Natural Foods Day lobbying event, April 12, 2005 in Washington, D.C. Designed to broaden the natural products industry’s base of political support, Natural Foods Day provides a easy way for natural product advocates to participate in face to face meetings with their congressional leaders to discuss industry issues.

With a new Congress in January, the natural products industry will face freshman congressional members who may not be familiar with the benefits natural products offer, particularly dietary supplements, in creating a healthier America. This year’s event will be critical in educating both new and returning legislators in anticipation or reintroduction of bills impacting the industry.

“A new Congress presents a great opportunity for industry to increase its base of support among lawmakers,” said David R. Seckman, NNFA executive director and CEO. “Legislators want to know what their constituents’ value and with a solid turnout at this year’s event we’ll be able to make a strong and lasting impression.”

Last year, more than 120 industry stakeholders from 30 states gathered on Capitol Hill for the association’s annual lobbying event. NNFA members representing all facets of the natural products industry met with members of Congress and their aides and presented them with “We Create Health” themed educational materials and a “scorecard” of industry positions on key legislation.

Participation in Natural Foods Day is free* and all congressional meetings are prearranged in advance for attendees by NNFA. The event consists of a morning briefing session and breakfast, afternoon meetings on Capitol Hill, and an evening reception celebrating 2005’s Congressional Champions.
