Addressing the needs of an industry formulating weight loss products without ephedra, Renaissance Herbs greatly expands it’s offerings of high potency and specialty Green Tea extracts. Among other options, these superior extracts feature naturally occurring caffeine and high levels of EGCG standardization.
Since 1985 clinical studies have shown significant benefits of green tea extract in weight management (Lecomte, 1985). The latest studies in France and Japan report similar benefits. In 2001, a 3-month study in 82 healthy Japanese men found that those given beverages containing the higher amounts of green tea tannins known as “catechins” showed the greater amount of abdominal fat loss.
Significant losses were found from 500-600 and 900 mg of catechins per day (Nagao et al., 2001). In 2002, researchers at the National Institute of Health and Medical Research in Marseille, France reported the results of a study of a green tea extract in 70 moderately obese adults (90% women) ranging in age from 20-69 years. Twice daily for 3 months, the patients took a standardized green tea extract in capsules providing 375 mg of green tea catechins per day. Over the course of the study, both the waist measurement and body weight of the patients steadily declined. In the end, the decrease in body weight averaged 4.6% and waist circumference had decreased by an average of 4.48% (Chantre and Lairon, 2002).
Renaissance offers a variety of Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) extracts under our CatePure™ brand, suitable for a wide variety of health, supplement, and beauty: • CatePure 30% - Water Soluble, 30% Catechins, 45% Polyphenols • CatePure 20% Caffeine - Caffeine Fortified, 20% Natural Caffeine (HPLC) • CatePure 50% Caffeine – Natural 50% Caffeine (HPLC) • CatePure 75%- Highest Standardized Grade, 75% Catechins, 95% • CatePure Cosmetic Grade - Cosmetic Grade, 40% EGCG (HPLC), <1%
