TORONTO, Sept. 23 /CNW/ - North America's leading marketer of herbal products introduced two new cold and flu products to the Canadian marketplace today, in conjunction with the Canadian Health Food Association conferencebeing held here this weekend.
Nature's Way of Canada Ltd., of Newmarket, Ontario, unveiled Umcka(TM) ColdCare(R) and Sambucol(R) Anti-Viral Flu Care, stating that because these products lessen the severity and duration of cold and flu symptoms, ailing Canadians will recuperate more quickly this winter.
"Both products are registered with Health Canada and have been in limited distribution in test markets with very successful results," said Mary Calmes, Manager, Nature's Way.
Umcka(TM) ColdCare(R) and Sambucol(R) Anti-Viral Flu Care, tested in clinical trials in Europe and Israel, reduce the severity and duration of cold and flu symptoms, respectively, by at least two days. Umcka(TM) is a root extract from a South African geranium used by the Zulus while Sambucol(R) is made from a type of black elderberry. Dean Morris, Master Herbalist from Nature's Way Products Inc. in Springville, Utah, said, "Last year in the U.S. alone, the flu cost the economy almost $167 billion and the common cold resulted in more than 42 million lost school and work days. These products couldn't come at a better time." "In 2002, Umcka(TM) ColdCare(R) was one of the fastest growing, over-the- counter (OTC) medicines in Europe," said Ms. Calmes. "Canadian consumers are becoming increasingly interested in herbal products as the cost of healthcare skyrockets so Nature's Way is pleased to help consumers in their quest for alternative, scientifically proven products that work." Nature's Way of Canada Ltd. is a major marketer and distributor of herbal products to health food stores in all provinces across Canada. The company distributes 260 herbal products in Canada through stores such as The Big Carrot, Noah's Natural Foods and Nutrition House, making its herbal product offering the largest in Canada. Nature's Way Products Inc. of Springville, Utah was the first to bring natural medicines with pharmacy standards from Europe to North America when it introduced ginkgo biloba and echinacea extracts to the U.S. in 1988 and Canada in 1989. Dr. Willmar Schwabe Group of Karlsruhe, Germany is the parent company of both Nature's Way of Canada Ltd. and Nature's Way Products Inc. The company spends about $32 million CDN each year on product research and is the leading plant-based medicine company in the world.
