Herbal Remedies Used as Part of HIV Treatment in Africa

Home

A story in Independent On-line reports that herbal remedies are being considered as a component for the treatment of HIV/Aids in South African hospitals.

Since many of the patients cannot afford anti-retroviral therapy, this approach represents a cost effective alternative that is leading to condition improvements in many patients.

One report says that 400 patients have undergone treatment with a regimen of herbs, many with long histories of use. Findings include weight gain and improved health status when the nautral medication was combined with antibiotics and a special diet.
