-New Aussie Catch Tests, and Tempts, American Taste Buds - June 20, 2006 (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) – G’Day Gourmet is challenging American tuna (and salmon) lovers to stretch their taste buds and open their minds to healthier canned fish choices. The company has released information relating to its current consumer quantitative study into how US consumers are reacting to the ‘spicing up’ of their canned tuna and salmon expectations. The second phase of qualitative research, to take place in the fall, will explore consumer health messaging. G’Day Gourmet’s six varieties of savory-flavored skipjack tuna include: Chili, Lemon Pepper, Mild Indian Curry, Tomato Basil, Tomato Onion, and Tomato Salsa. G’Day Gourmet’s wild-caught Alaskan salmon comes in Chili, Lemon Pepper and Smoked flavors. Initially, 100 US consumers were asked if they liked the “G’Day way” to make a tuna sandwich. Given the choice of plain versus G’Day Gourmet’s new flavors, consumers were receptive to the flavored versions. Many stated that G’Day Gourmet’s flavored tuna and salmon constituted a refreshing change from everyday tuna and salmon and an appealing alternative to other high-protein snacks and lunch fare. As for taste preferences, the initial research findings nationwide have indicated that Tomato Basil, Lemon Pepper, Tomato Onion, and Tomato Salsa, in that order, are consumers’ favorites among the tunas, while Lemon Pepper and Smoked are the best new tastes in wild-caught Alaskan salmon. First indications are that Mild Indian Curry and Chili flavors will have geographic and urban preference. Final results on the study will be available late fall. As G’Day Gourmet President, Mark Niemiec explains, “All our select skipjack tuna and salmon are wild-caught from waters which are among the world’s most pristine. We then use only the finest, all-natural flavor ingredients like real chilies, tomatoes, onions and herbs. The result is a diverse set of new taste experiences to match US consumers’ broadening palate.” These tempting flavors transform the usual canned seafood into an Aussie adventure. In addition to being a diversion from the norm, G’Day’s skipjack tuna is low in carbohydrates and mercury, and a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids. G’Day Gourmet recently launched its tuna and salmon exclusively at Whole Foods Market stores nationally through a series of demos sponsored by the Australian Trade Commission.
