The new definition will be included as part of the 2006 Official AAFCO Publication and ensures that only products that meet the definition can be labeled as fructooligosaccharides on AAFCO-compliant product labels. “We have conducted more than 200 scientific studies and field trials with scFOS to demonstrate its safety and efficacy,” said Bart Dunsford, Ph.D., senior account manager – animal nutrition for GTC Nutrition. “The official feed definition of fructooligosaccharide further strengthens the value and benefits of this ingredient to the animal feed producers in the U.S.” FortiFeed® scFOS® is a natural, indigestible carbohydrate ingredient composed of short-chain fructose units bound by a beta-linked terminal glucose unit. The ingredient has numerous value-added applications in both pet foods and commercial animal feed.
