VANCOUVER, BC (Feb. 2, 2006) - The 2006 BC Cup Series, Western Canada's top amateur road cycling series, will have FloraGLO® Lutein as its new title sponsor, when the seven-race series gets underway in Pitt Meadows on April 9th.
Allan Prazsky, Technical Director of Cycling BC, British Columbia's provincial governing body of competitive cycling, joined Steve Hanson of Surrey-based Alliance Principle Ingredients (API) in making the announcement today. API distributes FloraGLO® Lutein to vitamin and food manufacturers throughout Canada.
The BC Cup Series is a high-performance cycling championship which awards points to the top 15 racers at seven races around BC. The 2006 BC Cup champions will be the male and female rider with the most points accumulated over the course of the season.
"Having FloraGLO® Lutein support the BC Cup Series is fantastic," said Prazsky. "Thanks to the tremendous success of BC's Superweek and standout BC Cup events in Langley, Pitt Meadows, Kelowna and Victoria, our Series is steadily gaining exposure and prestige each year. Attracting an international sponsor like FloraGLO® Lutein certainly reflects that growth and national exposure."
One of the world's leading lutein brands, FloraGLO® Lutein is used in multi-vitamins and dietary supplements around the world. Lutein is a carotenoid (natural pigment) found in dark green leafy vegetables. It's a powerful antioxidant that's used to fight the effects of harmful free radicals and benefit eye and skin health.
"We are pleased to be on board with Cycling BC and secure the title sponsor position of the BC Cup Series," said Hanson. "The BC Cup Series provides FloraGLO® Lutein with an excellent platform to showcase its benefits to both athletes as well as cycling enthusiasts."
