Lyc-O-Mato® Powder offers lycopene fortification to functional foods
August 8, 2005 - LycoRed Natural Products Industries, Ltd., the largest producer and marketer of natural tomato lycopene in the United States, received word today that FDA is satisfied with LycoRed’s determination that Lyc-O-Mato® Powder is safe for functional food use. This green-light from FDA is welcomed by LycoRed as it steers its flagship food fortification ingredient into the functional food marketplace.
Lyc-O-Mato® Powder was developed especially for the fortification of foods with lycopene. It is higher in lycopene and lower in sugar than any other tomato powder, making it the most healthful choice for lycopene fortification.
“We are very pleased that FDA was completely satisfied with the report of the panel of independent experts who determined that Lyc-O-Mato® Powder is safe for use in a wide variety of foods. Lyc-O-Mato® Powder expands our capability within the food and beverage industry,” Dr. Zohar Nir, Vice President of Marketing at LycoRed states. “Fortification of foods with tomato lycopene will greatly contribute to the consumer appeal of otherwise ordinary food products. Consumers are more concerned about key issues like wellness and prevention when they select products off the store shelf .”
Lyc-O-Mato® Powder contains beneficial tomato phytonutrients including lycopene, beta-carotene, and tocopherols. The synergistic action of these antioxidant phytonutrients transforms an ordinary food into a functional food with numerous health benefits, including the support of cardiovascular and prostate health and prevention of DNA damage. Numerous epidemiological studies on the benefits of a diet containing tomato products support the benefits of Lyc-O-Mato® Powder.
Lyc-O-Mato® Powder can also be used as a natural red colorant in a variety of foods such as soy meat substitute products, pasta, cereals and smoothie drinks.
LycoRed offers the industry the only natural tomato lycopene ingredients for food use. Food technologists in the United States are considering Lyc-O-Mato® as a tomato lycopene source in numerous categories including breads, cereals, beverages and meat analogues. Dr. Nir affirms that, “LycoRed has had great success in the U.S. dietary supplement industry with Lyc-O-Mato® oleoresin. We fully anticipate that the Lyc-O-Mato® Powder will be equally successful in the food industry.”
LycoRed Natural Products Industries, Ltd. , a member of the LycoRed Group, is a research and development company dedicated to the scientific and commercial development, production and marketing of natural products based on phytonutrients from tomato. The LycoRed Group specializes in the manufacture of carotenoid ingredients, specialized pre-mixes, formulations and microencapsulation.
