WASHINGTON, D.C., May 9, 2003 -The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), one of the dietary supplement industry's leading trade associations, issued the following statement in response to a joint press conference call held today by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Statement by Annette Dickinson, Ph.D., President:
"We support the actions of the FDA and the FTC in implementing their regulatory authority under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) by taking action against companies that are making illegal and scientifically unsupported product claims for preventing, treating or curing SARS. Our industry is committed to working with these regulatory agencies to ensure consumers have access to high quality, safe, and beneficial dietary supplement products." |
