LOS ANGELES, CA, October 5, 2005—Soft Gel Technologies, Inc.® (SGTI®) was granted trademark registration #2,988,089 for Carnisol® by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. Carnisol®, manufactured exclusively by SGTI®, is the only dietary supplement containing L-Carnipure® micronized L-carnitine L-tartrate in a special fatty acid base available in easy-to-swallow soft gel capsules for superior absorption. L-Carnipure® is Lonza’s 100% guaranteed pure, natural L-carnitine, and does not contain the harmful D-isomer. L-Carnitine is a vital compound whose basic function is helping to convert fat into energy.
The L-tartrate salt of L-carnitine is the most preferable form of L-carnitine, as it has the highest yield of stable L-carnitine. The past presented challenges in manufacturing soft gelatin capsules with this preferred L-carnitine salt because of issues with stability and capsule shell deterioration. A collaborative project involving Lonza and SGTI® resulted in the development of stable soft gels that do not leak, become dry and brittle, or allow active L-carnitine to deteriorate. Future studies may indicate the advantages of lipophilic delivery systems for micronized L-carnitine over traditional forms of this nutrient, including enhanced bioavailability.
The D-form of carnitine is biologically inactive. Because of its potential negative effects, the FDA has not given D-carnitine and D,L-carnitine GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status. Due to a unique patented method for the stereo-specific synthesis of pure L-carnitine (U.S. Patent 5,073,376 and other International Patents for L-Carnipure® Tartrate), Lonza is the only manufacturer that can guarantee 100% pure L-carnitine, completely free of any harmful D-carnitine.
SGTI® President, Ron Udell, remarked, “Carnisol®, now a registered trademark, joins the many branded products we are pleased to offer our customers. SGTI® is proud to be affiliated with a respected supplier and manufacture a recognized, branded ingredient.”
About Soft Gel Technologies, Inc.® Soft Gel Technologies, Inc.® is a leading contract manufacturer providing specialty soft gelatin encapsulation to the nutraceutical industry. SGTI®’s leading product is a patented highly bio-available CoQ10 soft gel marketed as CoQsol®. Other key products include GlucoTrim®, a banaba leaf extract for blood glucose management and Injuv®, a low molecular weight hyaluronic acid for cosmeceutical and joint health applications. Soft Gel Technologies, Inc.® is a privately held company based in Los Angeles, CA.
