EDDYVILLE, Iowa - Cargill Acidulants’ REGENASURE® glucosamine, the first commercially available fermentation-derived glucosamine, has been approved for use in the United Kingdom for all applications currently using glucosamine. “We are delighted that REGENASURE® glucosamine is now approved for sale in the United Kingdom,” said William M. Gruber, vice president, worldwide sales and marketing for Cargill Acidulants. “The UK is the major glucosamine market in Europe. Demand has been growing significantly in this market in recent years,” Gruber said.
“UK users have expressed the need for a non-shellfish source of glucosamine,” said Tim Bauer, director of sales, Cargill Acidulants. “They want the quality marketing attributes that REGENASURE® glucosamine offers. We are happy that the UK’s Advisory Committee on Novel Foods and Processes (ACNFP) recognizes that REGENASURE® glucosamine is substantially equivalent to current commercially available material,” Bauer said.
REGENASURE® glucosamine is made by fermentation and is Kosher approved. Glucosamine is a dietary supplement used by millions of consumers to promote joint health. Most glucosamine products currently on the market are derived from shellfish waste, which can cause an allergic reaction in some people. REGENASURE® glucosamine was recently cited by Nutrition Business Journal as a 2003 Product Merit Award winner for outstanding business achievement in the nutrition industry for the development of this new innovative ingredient.
For more information on REGENASURE® glucosamine, please call 1-888-REGENASURE or contact REGENASURE@cargill.com.
