Puyallup, Wash., October 25, 2006 -- AIBMR Life Sciences, Inc., a full-service natural and medicinal products research institute, has announced the appointments of Larry Scherwitz, Ph.D., to the position of director of clinical sciences and Amy Clewell, N.D., to the position of research assistant. Dr. Scherwitz will be responsible for protocol development and monitoring of all clinical trials commissioned by AIBMR. He will also work closely with other technical staff on toxicology, mode of action and non-clinical trials. Dr. Clewell will be part of AIBMR's natural and medicinal products division and assist with nutraceutical research, preclinical and clinical trials, toxicology studies and product development.

Dr. Scherwitz comes to AIBMR with more than 25 years experience conducting clinical trials to evaluate the efficacy of complementary and alternative therapies. Dr. Scherwitz obtained his doctorate in social psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and completed a three-year post-doctoral fellowship in Behavioral Medicine at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. While in graduate school, Dr. Scherwitz specialized in psychophysiology through a fellowship from Harvard Medical School. Prior to coming to AIBMR, he was highly involved in a multitude of research and investigatory roles at academic institutions throughout the United States and Europe and co-authored various published research papers, including more than 65 articles on complimentary and alternative medicine, lifestyle, and behavioral/mind-body research.

Clewell brings clinical experience as a licensed naturopathic physician and previous work as a research technician at Indiana University. Dr. Clewell holds a Bachelor of Science in biology from Indiana University and a doctoral degree in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University in Kenmore, Wash. Prior to joining AIBMR, she was a lab director at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Clewell's particular interests have been in selective estrogen receptor modulators and their effects in the body in terms of promising botanicals.
